Choose your adventure!
Albarracín, considered one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, has an architectural and urban legacy that exudes charm and tranquility. Anyone who visits ends up admiring every corner, its houses with that characteristic reddish color, or its wrought iron and wooden balconies. The views from every point in Albarracín are one of its strong points, along with its gastronomy.
Teruel in general and Albarracín in particular have a cuisine that captivates. If you are looking for where to eat in Albarracín, in this section we have selected the best bars and restaurants to enjoy the local food.
Albarracín is the perfect place if you're looking for a different kind of vacation. With multiple options, it perfectly adapts to the needs of every visitor. Family vacation? Romantic getaway? Adventure weekend? Here is a selection of accommodations so you can find what you most want for your days off.
Albarracín has countless places and corners to discover. Here is a selection of our favorites so you don't miss anything. It's worth it!
The Toy Museum of Albarracín is a must-see for both children and adults. Children find in it the perfect place to dream and let their imagination run wild. But it's also for adults, as it is a way to return to their childhood through the toys that have accompanied them throughout their lives.
Three floors of toys, among which we find everything from dolls to puppets or paper cutouts, all of which are in perfect condition thanks to the work of the Eustaquio Castellano Foundation.
Although it can be visited at any time, it is very interesting to check out their latest news, as they often organize exhibitions and themed workshops.
There is nothing better than strolling through a village while being guided by someone who is an expert in its history and secrets. Information and facts that immerse us in the history of one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, which, perhaps without a guide, we would never get to know. The best part? Comfortable shoes, light clothing (in summer), and a great desire to discover Albarracín. You won't regret it!
You will find two companies that offer guided tours of Albarracín, with many years of experience.
La Maleza is a wildlife park with more than 23 hectares of land where you will mainly find fauna representative of our Iberian system. The animals have large enclosures, where they live in a state of semi-freedom. It is not a typical zoo; the animals have enough space and natural shelters so they are not disturbed if they do not wish to be, so you need to be patient and enjoy the moment when the animal decides to come out and greet you.
For the little ones, there is also a weekend summer camp where they will learn all about the wildlife around them not only during the day, but also at night. They will learn to look at the landscape and the inhabitants living in it in a different way.
The guided tours are also very interesting, as the park workers are the ones who know the animals' secrets best and may even let you feed some of them.
The Museum of Transhumance and Traditional Life of the Montes Universales is a small museum owned by the municipality.
Its content covers broad fields such as history, anthropology, ethnography, sociology, and ethnoveterinary science.
The permanent collection, made up of a variety of objects and utensils, is displayed in showcases. It is a museum designed according to the latest trends in museology, where the clarity of concepts is more important than the number of pieces on display.
The idea of this museum is to visit it with a guide who can expand on the information written next to each piece.
WHAT TO DO IN ALBARRACÍN
One of the greatest advantages of spending a weekend in Albarracín is that you will find yourself surrounded by nature and incredible natural landscapes. From the Source of the Tagus River to the Calomarde Waterfall. A true wonder!
Enjoy an exciting Segway tour around the surroundings of the Laguna del Cañizar, in Villarquemado, just over 30km from Albarracín. A unique 90-minute ride where you can discover a natural environment full of flora and fauna. You can book your ticket directly on this Albarracín Aventura website, in the "Other activities" section.
If what you want is a day to disconnect in nature, get away from your phone and stress, this low-difficulty route is what you need. It can easily be completed in 1 or 2 hours, so you can take the opportunity to eat at one of the restaurants we recommend.
About 38km from Albarracín. Along its course we can find several reservoirs, such as the Entrepeñas, Buendía, and Bolarque reservoirs.
Within the municipality of El Vallecillo, you will find the perfect place to enjoy a most pleasant morning. With a picnic area set against the backdrop of a cold-water waterfall created by the Cabriel River, it is an ideal option to enjoy nature.
Although you can access it from the village itself, you can reach the Ojos del Cabriel via a hiking route of about 2 km approximately.
It is the perfect excursion to enjoy with children or pets, due to its low difficulty and its proximity to the parking area.
The Calomarde Waterfall (also known as Cascada Batida or Cascada del Molino Viejo) is one of the most impressive in the Sierra de Albarracín. It is a huge waterfall about 20 meters high, along the course of the Fuente del Berro River, a tributary of the Guadalaviar River.
It is an ideal visit to do with children, as the Calomarde Waterfall is very easily accessible. You can park in the parking lot next to the road and from there, going down just a few meters along the marked trail, you will see the waterfall from the upper viewpoint. The trail goes down to the foot of the waterfall so you can see it up close.
As a complementary idea, if you like hiking, it is highly recommended to do the Barranco de la Hoz Route. If you take advantage and leave from Calomarde, following the signs you can do this route which has several impressive walkways along the river, and is known for being one of the most beautiful in Teruel.
You can't leave Albarracín without visiting the walls that surround the town. These walls, of Arab origin, are perfectly preserved and offer spectacular views. Although the path is quite rocky, the only way to reach the top is on foot, so you need to be careful if you are with children or adults who have difficulty walking.
